NUECES COUNTY, Texas – Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales issued a statement after local health officials announced more than 400 new COVID-19 cases.
On Thursday evening, the Nueces County Public Health District reported 438 new cases of COVID-19. Judge Canales said the number of new cases is worrying news.
“We are analyzing the data to see if we need to take action to contain local outbreaks and to see if any information anomalies have contributed to this sharp one-day increase in cases. We can’t consider it an anomaly; consider an urgent warning, especially because of the holiday meetings taking place now, “Canales said.
He added that local doctors assess their ability to respond to a sustained increase in the number of positive cases. The Nueces County judge said she will be proactive in asking for help through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) if officials anticipate an increase in hospitalizations based on the increase in positive cases.
Canales stated: “I urge all residents of Nueces County to take all necessary precautions to reduce the chances of coronavirus exposure. And as we talk about practicing the 3 Ws: wear a mask, wash your hands, watch out distance, it is important to follow all precautions advised by the Texas Department of Health Services and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “
