The number of Michigan viruses looks better

The rate of new COVID-19 cases in Michigan has dropped for more than 29 days, a state scientist reported Wednesday.

“It will also be important during this holiday season and on New Year’s Eve to make sure that we maintain this social distance. That will be very important, ”said Sarah Lyon-Callo, head of the epidemiology office.

“We will look at this data during the holiday season to determine if we will see any kind of resurgence of cases,” Lyon-Callo said.

The state reported last week the lowest total new cases per week, 28,072, since the end of October.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer responded with a ban on eating in an indoor restaurant, face-to-face high school classes and other business restrictions. The food ban remains in effect until January 15.

“We hope Michiganders does what we did during Thanksgiving, don’t travel so much, don’t gather so much, don’t contribute so much outreach,” Whitmer said. “And if that’s the case, we could take more aggressive steps to get back on track right after the first of the year.”

Meanwhile, the health department said more than 231,000 doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines have been administered to local health departments and hospitals. More than 120,000 additional doses are expected next week.
