With deep sorrow, the Cuban Institute of the Art and Film Industry reports that the outstanding director of photography Raúl Pérez Ureta died this Wednesday in Havana.

Ureta studied Journalism, Film Specialization and Theatrical Performance. He began working at the Institute in 1961 as an assistant camera assistant in the Cartoon Department. He later worked as a camera assistant and sound recorder at the Latin American ICAIC News, until in 1965 he began as a cameraman and worked on more than 800 editions of the weekly news program.

Over time, Ureta became a cinematographer and began collaborating with important Cuban film directors. He also worked under the orders of foreign filmmakers such as Fernando Birri and Ruy Guerra.

His filmography includes titles such as Madagascar (Fernando Pérez, 1994), Vertical Love (Arturo Sotto, 1997), Havana Suite (Fernando Pérez, 2003), Perfect Wrong Love (Gerardo Chijona, 2004), The Good Demons (Gerardo Chijona, 2017) ) and unsubmissive (Fernando Pérez, 2018).

He was a professor at the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV), a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC).
