The Packers now have a chance to re-sign CB Kyle Fuller

A player coveted by Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is back available.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chicago Bears officially released cornerback Kyle Fuller, who almost joined the Packers in 2018.

Gutekunst, then freshman general manager, signed Fuller with a four-year bid sheet, but the Bears agreed to the deal and retained it.

The Bears can really thank the Packers for the contract that was reloaded and that helped turn Fuller into a head injury. Chicago had to restructure the deal to free up maximum space before the 2020 season, and the team was unwilling to get a $ 20 million limit to have Fuller on the roster in 2021.

Now, the Packers, a team that needs an initial corner, will have another chance to acquire Fuller, though the situation is very different three years later.

Fuller turned 29 in February and came out of an average season by his standards. Packers have no room for limit and would probably not be able to make a competitive offer if their price is excessively high in the free market.

Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated reported that the Packers were not expected to be a Fuller player.

Still, the idea of adding Fuller must be intriguing to Gutekunst and the Packers.

The combination of Fuller, a two-time Pro Bowler, with Jaire Alexander, a second-team All-Pro and one of the game’s top corners, could create a dominant secondary capable of transforming the Packers ’defense from good to possibly great. The team has been looking around the corner market for an update on Kevin King, who is also a free agent, and Fuller could be the ideal choice if the price ends up being right.

The Packers haven’t had any kind of free agency, mostly because of capitalization issues. Would he be willing to rework Aaron Rodgers ’deal to create enough space for Fuller, a potential additional impact on defense? We should have an answer soon enough.
