A Spirit Airlines plane bound for Los Angeles was diverted to Denver on Wednesday when it appears a passenger tried to open an exit door during the flight.
The video of another passenger on Spirit Airlines Flight 185 showed passengers and crew members holding the man near the departure gate. A passenger, who asked not to be identified, told NBCLA the man came out of the toilet shirtless and tried to open the exit door.
The video later showed the man being held in a seat by another man.
Authorities removed the passenger from the plane, which was leaving Cleveland, Denver. The flight continued to Los Angeles International Airport after a delay and arrived after midnight.
“It is important to note that opening a door exit flight is impossible due to the air pressure inside the cabin fixing the door against its frame with a stronger force than that anyone could ever surpass, ”Spirit Airlines said in a statement. “Safety is our number one priority at Spirit Airlines. Law enforcement officers spotted the plane in Denver and arrested the passenger. We thank the crew members and guests who helped to deal with this situation quickly before arrival. “
In another video, the same passenger is shown on a barrier that paramedics were rolling inside Denver Airport. The paramedics were accompanied by a person in clothing from the Transportation Security Administration.
The passenger’s identity was not immediately available. No further details were immediately obtained about what caused the interruption during the flight.
