The Phoenix officer fatally shoots a gunman holding a baby

A Phoenix police officer fatally shot an armed father who had his son in a dramatic encounter that was captured on body camera footage.

The officer can be heard begging Paul Bolden, 37, to drop the child off before shooting him in front of a hotel on Jan. 9 in a video released Monday by the Phoenix Police Department.

Police responded to the scene after Bolden’s girlfriend called 911 reporting that she fired a gun while holding the boy.

“[He] i just grabbed my baby, he has a gun, he is loaded, he has grabbed the baby. He tries to kill him, he shoots, he shot, “the frantic mother told the dispatchers’ 911, according to the audio of the call posted Monday.

“He got my son, he stole it.”

Before police arrived, Bolden had a driver at gunpoint, according to another person who called 911.

When police arrived at the scene, Bolden refused his orders to drop the weapon, police said.

“He is currently holding a child hostage,” an agent added on the radio, according to the images. “He has a gun, he’s already fired a shot,” the officer continues.

“We need more units, block all traffic.”

Bolden then points the gun at his son and others, police said, who led the officer with a rifle to open fire.

The shot was fired from behind the door of a police SUV, which obstructed the officer’s body camera.

After shooting, an officer decides to run and grab the crying baby from the ground.

“Hold on, hold on, hold on,” one agent might say.

“No, fk it, get the boy! Get the kid! ”, Answers another.

Bolden was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
