A game guide project that had raised more than $ 320,000 on Kickstarter has been shut down.
The project, simply called Hand-Drawn Game Guides and described as “unofficial and unauthorized guides for classic, hand-crafted and handwritten games,” was led by creator Philip Summers. .
In a shared statement on TwitterSummers said he had to “[pull] the “in project for” plugin is exactly what you think it serves.
“I was hoping to be able to successfully navigate through any legal issues, but unfortunately I was unable to do so,” he added. “Is this thing definitely being done? I still don’t know. I’ll find out in the next few days.”
He continued: “I always knew this was a big risk, but I watched other similar books navigate these kinds of issues and did my best to learn from them. Of course, I’m disappointed, but I completely understand why. that happened. It’s okay. I’m not crazy. “
The guides covered Nintendo’s IP addresses like The Legend of Zelda and Metroid, but also Konami properties like Koei Tecmo’s Contra and Ninja Gaiden.
The Kickstarter campaign began on August 6, 2021 and had an initial goal of $ 20,000 that was reached “within minutes of being published,” Summers said at the time.
