MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin (WMTV) – Grafton Aurora Medical Center says the person who removed more than 500 doses of the Modern COVID-19 vaccine admitted to doing so intentionally Wednesday.
Earlier this week, the Medical Center claims that it was learned that 57 vials of the vaccine were removed from a pharmacy refrigerator overnight and that an immediate internal review led researchers to believe the withdrawal was caused by “involuntary human error.”
However, the person in question admitted on Wednesday that he had done so intentionally.
Aurora Medical Center says it has contacted authorities and the incident is being investigated later.
“We are more than disappointed that this individual’s actions result in a delay of more than 500 people receiving the vaccine,” the medical center said in a statement Wednesday. “This was a violation of our core values and the individual is no longer employed by us.”
Doctors were able to administer part of the vial vaccine within the permitted period of 12 hours after cooling.
Once the vaccine has been thawed, it cannot be re-frozen.
