A new rumor has sparked the possible return of a classic series to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Unlike PlayStation and Nintendo, Xbox does not have an incredible abundance of IP. Has Hello, War gears, Power, Fable, and a few other heavy hitters, but not enough to keep pace with their biggest competitors. Once the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company, takes place, he adds Negative consequence, The old documents, DOOM, Wolfenstein, and more in its IP arsenal, it may even get to work, but until then and throughout its existence in the gaming space, Xbox has an IP issue.
That said, there is IP that has been seated and has value. Last year he announced revivals for two of the most important examples: Fable i Perfect Dark. There are even more IPs that Microsoft could pull off something. For example, Killer Instinct. Will Killer Instinct never be as big as street fighter or mortal Kombat? Probably not, but it’s an IP with a lot of potential that Microsoft tried to revive on the Xbox One, but after that failed attempt, it hasn’t touched the series. However, this is apparently not due to a lack of desire.
During a recent episode of Xbox Two, Jez Corden, an Xbox insider, revealed that he has learned that Microsoft wants to make a new Killer Instinct, but has not found the right partner to develop the game.
“I know Microsoft wants to do that Killer Instinct,“Corden said.” It’s not that they didn’t want there to be a sequel. It’s just that they didn’t have anyone to make them, at least that’s what he told me. “
As noted above, Microsoft tried to bring Killer Instinct return from the grave in 2013 on Xbox One. However, not only did the renaissance not ignite the world, but Amazon acquired its developer, Double Helix Games, shortly thereafter. When that happened, Iron Galaxy Studios came into the picture to develop the second and third seasons of the game. That said, while Iron Galaxy Studios is a good studio, it’s neither an industry leader nor a top-tier team, which could explain why they weren’t taken advantage of for a sequel.
That said, for now, bring it all up with a grain of salt. Although the source in question has proven reliable in the past, nothing here is unofficial and not 100% clear if it is up to date.
