The San Francisco 49ers rise in the NFL draft and acquire the No. 3 pick for the Miami Dolphins, according to sources

The Miami Dolphins have modified the NFL’s preliminary order for 2021, sending No. 3 pick to the San Francisco 49ers for No. 12 pick, who then switched to the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told ESPN.

As a result, the Dolphins ended Friday’s moves with the No. 6 general election in this year’s draft and several future first-round picks as part of their transportation, sources told ESPN.

The Dolphins first sent shockwaves through the landscape as they shifted from No. 3 to the 49ers in exchange for No. 12 this year, a first and third round in 2022 and a first round in 2023, according to sources Adam Schefter of ‘ESPN.

Miami continued its treatment shortly after, sending selection number 12, no. 123 and a first round of 2022 at the Eagles in exchange for selections no. 6 and 156 this year, it was announced.

The play puts the 49ers in the mix to draft a top quarterback, but sources told ESPN that San Francisco is keeping Jimmy Garoppolo and has no plans to change him.

“Jimmy is here to stay,” a 49ers source told Schefter. “This year is our boy.”

The 49ers chose to negotiate because they are good with the options that will be at No. 3 after the Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets selections, sources told ESPN.

Miami acquired the No. 3 pick in the deal that sent Laremy Tunsil to the Houston Texans. As a result of this deal, the Dolphins have secured Noah Igbinoghene, Solomon Kindley, selections no. 12, núm. 36 and no. 102 in 2021, as well as first-round picks in 2022 and 2023.

The third-round pick going from the 49ers to the Dolphins in 2022 is a compensatory selection for Robert Saleh’s hiring for the Jets.

ESPER’s Cameron Wolfe contributed to this report.
