The Las Vegas Raiders can give the 49ers a chance to consolidate the top of their depth box on the right. Josina Anderson reported Wednesday that the Raiders are expected to release RG Gabe Jackson after seven years with the club.
The performance did not drive the exit. Jackson was scheduled to earn $ 9.6 million next season and his contract left zero dead money for Vegas to separate from him.
In fact, Jackson played very well for a strong offensive front for the Raiders last year and started all 16 games. The previous two years he started the 24 games he played. An elbow injury limited him to 13 games in 2018 and a preseason knee injury kept him at 11 games the following year.
While the 49ers haven’t invested much in RG’s place during Kyle Shanahan’s tenure, it was enough with one problem last year that they could end up spending some of their limited resources to get a reliable player who could handle it. as a starter and allow players like Daniel Brunskill to work as a reserve. This would improve the starting point and help his depth, which he suffered severely last year as injuries accumulated.
It would be a departure from the norm for San Francisco, but suffering tires on an available RG outfielder like Jackson could help secure an offensive line that needs some reinforcement.
