The Sanford firefighter faces charges for his role in the Capitol Revolt

SANFORD, Fla. – A Sanford firefighter who was photographed inside the Capitol building during a large-scale riot last week has been arrested by federal officials, according to records.

Andrew Williams was arrested on Tuesday on charges of disorderly conduct because of the Capitol and of entering the president’s temporary residence without permission to do so.

He appeared in court on Tuesday and a judge set his bail at $ 25,000. Now that he has been released, he will have to hand over his firearms and passport, restrict his travel and undergo mental health assessments and drug testing.

If convicted, he could face a fine or up to six months in prison.

The image sent to News 6 shows Williams wearing a Trump 2020 hat and pointing to a poster for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi’s office was vandalized during the riots and other photographs show rioters sitting at his desk.

The Sanford Fire Department said last week that an investigation had been initiated and that Williams was on paid leave but now that he has been arrested, Williams has been put on unpaid administrative leave.

“We keep the men and women of this department to the highest standards. It saddens me that an individual’s actions have soiled the work and dedication that the rest of the department does on a daily basis. Our investigation will continue in conjunction with the current federal criminal investigation. Like policy with any kind of policy violation, including a criminal offense, an internal administrative process must be followed to ensure a thorough investigation with a fair conclusion. I ask for the patience of the public as we move forward in this process, ”Sanford fire chief Craig Radzak said in a press release.

Crowds of supporters of President Donald Trump passed police and entered the Capitol building on Wednesday as Congress prepared to certify Electoral College votes that would make official the victory of President-elect Joe Biden.

So far, at least five more men from Florida have been arrested.

Now, ahead of next week’s inauguration, authorities across the country are preparing for potentially violent protests and demonstrations.
