Fortnite players have spent the entire seventh season of the game facing a growing alien threat. Now it’s time for the aliens to face the threat from us as we storm the alien ship and release glowing dangerous-looking cubes at the end of the explosive season.

Although it was the first time I attended one Fortnite end of the event, which I only recently entered the game, I know very well about the saga of the massive, unknown purple cube that fans affectionately call Kevin. Since its first appearance in 2018, born of a mysterious fracture, to his explosion, which it briefly transported players to another dimension, the Kevin saga has been one of the most interesting things that have come out of Epic’s Battle Royale game since it started devouring and started devouring players in 2017. Players love the cube. They want to know where is the cube, what you are thinking and if you are thinking about them.

At today’s special season 7 event, we found Kevin. And Kevin has friends.

Many friends.

In the final moments of Fortnite During Season 7, the players (including me) were embarked aboard the alien ship that has been floating on the island during a final attack. The enigmatic Dr. Sloan tied a portion of the island’s land mass with explosives, and players were needed to assemble the explosives. After a dramatic run through the bowels of the mother ship, we found ourselves in a large, empty room. When Dr. Sloan began assembling the explosives, a large, cube-like object rose from the center of the room.

Leveraging the power of our backpacks, Dr. Sloan managed to drain poor Kevin, leaving us standing in the room with his creepy gray corpse. The good doctor arms the explosive charges and gives bad news. Instead of teleporting us home and risking fleeing the bucket, he left us on the boat to die. Bummer.

After running around the room a bit with blind panic, the players discovered that our backpacks had the ability to recharge Kevin. Joining us, we relived the cube, which now shone blue instead of purple, and the room where we were trapped began to rise into the air. Then an explosion. Then falling. And finally … to continue to Fortnite Season 8. Watch the entire explosive event below.

Fortnite Season 8 begins tomorrow at 5 a.m., Eastern Time. If those final moments were any indication, it will be a bright cube city in there.
