One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting Saturday in the wake of a shooting in Columbus, Ohio.
CNN reported that the shooting took place in the parking lot of a General Dollar, where a vigil was being held for Jarrin Hickman, who had been killed a year earlier.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, a dark SUV drove through the wake around 7:30 p.m., and began firing at the crowd, hitting five people, including a 12-year-old boy. The five people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Latoya Carpenter, 39, was not part of the vigil and was driving the General Dollar when the shooting began. A bullet hit Carpenter in the head and caused his car to collide with a vehicle parked near the store, CNN reported. Carpenter was pronounced dead at the scene.
There are currently no suspects and an investigation is underway.
The shooting comes as activists have renewed calls for gun control in light of a series of mass shootings across the United States, including in Atlanta, Boulder, Colorado and Indianapolis.
