The nightmare continues …
Developer Frogwares has released a brief statement asking users not to purchase the Steam edition of The sinking city, which recently returned to the PC retail platform after a period of commotion over the licensing issues of the title. According to the Ukrainian study, the Steam edition of the 2019 mystery horror title was not developed by them, although no further details will be given yet.
The sinking city – A piece of madness and intrigue inspired by the Lovecraft era – was withdrawn from digital sale by the developer after the aftermath of publisher Nacon (then Big Ben Interactive). Frogwares filed a lawsuit against its publisher for a list of complaints related to property rights, marketing promises and delays in payment. In October 2020, a court ruled that Frogwares had acted illegally in withdrawing the release title. The sinking city would return to digital storefronts in January 2021, only to be removed from Steam again in a double-fast time.
On Steam, users claim that the new revision of The sinking city is an older version of the game and does not include access to DLC, post-release updates, cloud storage, or achievements. Frogwares insists he will follow up “sooner” with more news on the situation. In the meantime, The sinking city still available on Steam, the Nintendo eShop, and the PlayStation and Microsoft stores.
Frogwares has not created a version of @thesinkingcity which is on sale today on @Vapor. It is not recommended to buy this version. More news soon.
