The Supreme Court on Monday denied an offer from the former President TrumpDonald Trump, the United States and South Korea come to an agreement on the cost-sharing of Graham troops: Trump can make the GOP bigger, stronger or “could destroy it.” to annul his electoral loss in Wisconsin, rejecting the former president’s last pending appeal for the results of the 2020 election.
In an unsigned order, without dissent, judges refused to initiate Trump’s lawsuit alleging that Wisconsin election officials violated the Constitution by extending the vote for absence in the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic.
The judges’ move put an end to Trump’s scattering and ineffective legal campaign to overthrow him President BidenJoe Biden: Lawyers and activists remember civil rights icons to mark “Bloody Sunday.” Fauci predicts high school students will receive coronavirus vaccines this fall. The victory added to the abysmal post-election record of Trump and his allies, which included more than 60 defeats and just one narrow victory.
Trump sued Wisconsin more than a month after Biden won the state by just over 20,000 votes.
His lawsuit claimed that policies adopted by the Wisconsin Electoral Commission to mitigate the spread of coronavirus, such as the establishment of ballot boxes by absentee voting, illegally usurped the sole power of the state legislature over electoral rules.
When he filed the lawsuit in late December, Trump had asked the court to expedite the review of his case before the Jan. 6 congressional meeting to certify the results, a request the judges denied.
That joint session of Congress was later interrupted when a violent pro-Trump crowd violated the Capitol. Trump’s comments to the mob just before the riot fueled his second dismissal in the House. He was later acquitted in the Senate.
Trump’s denial of the appeal on Monday means less than four judges agreed to hear his case.
Several of the court’s most conservative judges had previously expressed an interest in addressing issues about what the Constitution says about how electoral authority is assigned to states.
As is typical practice, however, the judges on Monday did not provide the public with a full view of how they voted on the petition or its reasoning.
Some legal scholars believe the Jan. 6 insurgency at the Capitol deterred the court from taking controversies related to the 2020 election over concerns that it could fuel false claims made by Trump and his allies that election results were illogical. legitimate.
