The Taliban will allow 200 people, including Americans, to leave Kabul airport

It is unclear at this stage how many Americans are expected to be on board the flight to Doha or what the nationalities of the remaining evacuees may be.

Taliban Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaki thanked Qatar Special Envoy Mutlaq Al-Qahtani for his country’s efforts to restart flights from Kabul International Airport, according to the Taliban in a statement posted this Thursday in an official account.

CNN has contacted the White House, the U.S. National Security Council and the Taliban for comment.

The last U.S. military aircraft left the city’s airport just before the August 31 deadline, leading to the total withdrawal of U.S. forces. This iconic moment came just two weeks after the Taliban took control of the capital.
