The Texas Board punishes Emmanuel Duron with coach Edinburgh High

The Texas Prefecture footballer, who made national headlines last week, will not play high school games again this school year when he throws the ball to a referee after being sent off.

Edinburgh Hive’s Emmanuel Duron was suspended by the university’s Interscholastic League board on Monday night as a result of his actions Thursday night for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

Duron, a senior defensive lineman, banged on the sidelines and slammed referee Fred Gracia to the ground. The video of the incident went viral.

Local police took Drone off the field and he was attacked the next day by a Class A.

“I would like to say that I am sorry for what happened to my coaches, my family and UIL,” Duran said in a statement Monday.

The day after the incident, Edinburgh authorities suspended Duron from school for three days and suspended him from all extracurricular activities throughout the academic year. The UIL board on Monday confirmed both sentences, with The Monitor of McCallon saying unanimously 5-0 votes.

The board also said that Edinburgh High Coach JJ Lieja has been placed on probation for the 2021-22 school year and the school’s athletics department has been on hold for two years.

Last season he was a District 31-6A defender, Duron Popcott’s footballer and punter and a star wrestler.
