Federals could eliminate a third vaccine against COVID-19 as early as January, a senior federal health official said Sunday.
“The next vaccine to come, which would be J&J [Johnson & Johnson] o Janssen. We would expect this authorization to be presented in January, “ABC News Admiral George Stephanopoulos, Admiral Brett Giroir, who is part of the White House COVID-19 working group, told” This Week. “
“We do not know the results. But we are very hopeful, by January we will have at least three vaccines, with – with more to come “.
Giroir, deputy secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, said there may be a vaccine available in the United States for “anyone” who wants it before June.
“We are very confident that by June anyone in the United States who wants to have a vaccine will have the opportunity to have a vaccine,” he said.
Giroir said that even without a third vaccine, the country is on track to distribute 20 million doses of vaccine distributed in at least the first week of January, with emergency use permits for Pfizer and Moderna shots.
About 30 million more doses are expected for the rest of January and another 50 million in February, Giroir said.
But Giroir stressed that Americans have yet to comply with public health recommendations, such as wearing a mask, despite the promise to help on the horizon.
“The most important thing Americans need to know is that while we see the end of the pandemic in sight, and it will end with widespread vaccination in this country, we have a lot of work to do,” Giroir said.
“Really, the lives of tens of thousands of Americans depend on what we do.”
