You may not go ahead and expire collectively, Dolphins fans. The crisis has been avoided.
The 2021 NFL draft will include the Miami Dolphins who will be ranked No. 3 overall, and part of the appeal of this deal is that there are “possible big three” available from possible 2021 quarterbacks. Lawrence of Clemson, Justin Fields of Ohio State and Zach Wilson of BYU. And with Miami at three, the team will be guaranteed to have one of those quarterbacks on the board and potentially willing to make a profit by negotiating outside that slot with a team desperate to get a top-tier QB prospect this offseason.
But the Big Three were not officially installed in stone until just under 24 hours ago. And with the NFL’s lower-class class statement coming out yesterday at the end of the day, there were plenty of reasons to hold your breath as a Dolphins fan.
But don’t worry! Justin Fields of Ohio State, in fact, took the plunge and announced, along with a host of other Buckeyes, that he would enter the 2021 NFL draft and therefore make sure Miami had a first business opportunity in April, if they want to. Fields has been hyperanalyzed in recent months, a situation that Dolphins fans and rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa of 2020 can sympathize with after a rookie campaign full of understandable ups and downs.
While Miami will enjoy the possible rewards and payouts that Fields ’presence that raises the 2021 quarterback class entails, yesterday was not good news for the Dolphins on the NFL Draft front. One of Fields ’teammates, wide receiver Chris Olave, declared the return of the 2021 college season to Columbus, leaving the 2021 NFL draft without one of his most gifted road runners. If Miami hopes to increase its reception room (and you can be sure it will), Olave’s departure for another year hurts.
All of this, however, can be easily erased if the team can pull out the No. 3 and further supply its treasure trove of goods for 2022 and beyond.
