The tornado warning issued for parts of Montgomery and Craig counties expires

CARROLL COUNTY – While this notice has expired, another notice was issued for Montgomery County, as well as for Giles County until 8:15 p.m.


The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Montgomery County and Craig County.

The notice expired at 7:45 p.m., after being extended from the original 7:15 p.m.

At 19:11, a strong storm was located capable of producing a tornado over Blacksburg, which moved northeast at 20 mph.

This warning was issued due to the rotation indicated by the radar, according to the National Meteorological Service.

Affected locations include Sinking Creek, Huffman, Maggie, Simmonsville and Abbott.

National weather services advise that heavy rains can hide this tornado, so don’t wait to see or hear the tornado … PASS IT NOW!

Announcements

Parts of Radford, as well as Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Merrimac, McDonalds Mill, Prices Fork and Walton, were included prior to the notice.

Those in the highlighted region are advised to cover themselves now by moving to a basement or interior room on the lower floor of a sturdy building.

Be sure to avoid windows and, if you are outside, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, move to the nearest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
