A smartphone is something we all rely on for most (if not all) tasks during the day, and the increase in screen size makes it difficult to use in some situations. Along these lines, having a phone that can change shape depending on the occasion seems new. OPPO has teamed up with Japanese design studio nendo (founded by Oki Sato) to present a triple phone concept at the 4th China International Industrial Design Exhibition (CIIDE) which has this year’s theme as “New designs, new trends, new momentum.”
Nicknamed the mobile phone, the reason for the design is to pursue “a comfortable relationship between people and their products through a human design-focused approach.” The concept phone, adapting a caterpillar-like nickname for the folding mechanism, is deployed on a 7-inch screen with a slim profile, which is a larger-screen real estate property than most we’ve seen so far. When deployed to the first fold, it reveals the 1.5-inch screen area for notifications or basic features such as music player controls, call history, or more. The second fold reveals 3.15-inch screen space for clicking photos, video calls, or playing. The third and last fold reveal the full widescreen for multitasking, widescreen photography, or games with a screen controller on each side. It even includes a pencil for professionals, such as the Galaxy Note 20 series.
The position of the buttons on the sides is such that they allow multiple actions depending on the positioning of the folded form. Mute your phone, change the volume up or down, and change the filters while taking photos, all with one of these buttons at your disposal. The interesting look can be used in a partially open position when slightly bent, perhaps a new possibility of use. The idea looks promising like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 concept and Apple’s conventional folding iPhone concept. One of the main advantages here is the low form factor and flexibility of use, just like the OPPO X 2021 roll-up mobile phone concept. Like all these phone concepts, the mobile phone is desirable, but everyone will be able to see it soon .
