The UK reported another 53,285 covid-19 positives in the country set in the last four hours after undergoing a laboratory test on Friday, New Year’s Day.
According to the latest updated data released by the British Ministry of Health, 613 deaths from the disease were also reported.
These figures are slightly lower than those released on Thursday, when the daily record of coronavirus-infected people was reached since the start of the pandemic (55,892) and 964 deaths were reported.
With the new data, the total number of cases in the UK since the beginning of the pandemic rises to 2,542,065, while the death toll reaches 74,125.
The UK continues to detect alarming levels of viruses, a situation exacerbated by the emergence of an even more contagious new strain and which has led to more areas in England this Thursday subject to the highest level of risk for contain the pandemic, with more severe restrictions.
This crisis threatens to collapse hospitals and has caused secondary schools, universities and many primary schools to delay until January 18 the return to classes – initially scheduled for next Monday – after the Christmas holidays.
Despite the bad news, the United Kingdom is hopefully waiting for the next day 4, when it will be able to fight the pandemic with two vaccines after the approval given this week to the preparation of Oxford and AstraZeneca by the regulatory bodies, after having authorized Pfizer / BioNTech compound.
Regulators are now in favor of administering the first doses “to as many people as possible as quickly as possible.”
