The United States on Sunday surpassed 19 million confirmed cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
The country surpassed that mark just six days after it reached 18 million. The number of confirmed cases in the nation has doubled in less than two months.
Deaths from COVID-19 in the United States have also been rising, now totaling more than 332,000, the equivalent of more than one death per 1,000 Americans. As of Saturday, the country had a population of approximately 331 million, according to the Census Bureau.
The United States is home to approximately 4% of the world’s population, but has reported about 24% of all coronavirus cases and 19% of COVID-19 deaths. However, health experts believe that many cases have not been reported, both at home and abroad.
