U.S. Representative Darren Soto of Florida says he has recently tested positive for COVID-19 and believes he has only mild symptoms because he was vaccinated
ORLANDO, Florida – U.S. Representative Darren Soto of Florida said Wednesday he recently tested positive for COVID-19 and believed he had only mild symptoms because he was vaccinated.
Soto, a Democrat from the Orlando area, tweeted that he had received monoclonal antibody treatment to reduce possible symptoms.
“This treatment is useful, but it is not a substitute for the COVID-19 vaccine. I encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as possible, ”he said.
Soto said he isolated himself and worked from home.
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida have fallen more than 20 percent in the past two weeks, the Florida Hospital Association said Wednesday
Mary Mayhew, president and CEO of the association, credited the increase in vaccinations and the availability of monoclonal antibody treatments for Floridians who tested positive. As of Wednesday, Florida had 13,100 hospitalizations confirmed by COVID-19.
COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida could drop from last year’s peak in the coming weeks, Mayhew said.
