The Vanderburgh Health Board Co. publishes a “call to action” to get vaccinated

INDIANA (WFIE) – Board members of the Vanderburgh County Department of Health urge local government leaders, business leaders and the public to act immediately with them to help protect children, pregnant women and all vulnerable people threatened by increasing the number of COVID -19 infections in our community.

Sandee Strader McMillen, vice president of the Vanderburgh County Health Department, said, “Our hospitals are overcrowded and our basic health care workers are exhausted and exhausted.”

They say our regional hospitals and their essential staff are overflowing with patients.

They published the following statistics.

● In Vanderburgh County, the lowest vaccination rates are in the younger age ranges:

12-15 years 2.8% 16-19 years 3.8% 20-24 years 5.4% 25-29 years. 5.5%

● Our local hospitalizations for COVID patients are the highest they have ever been.

● Of the 1,288 hospital admissions between August 1 and August 22, 2021, 1,271 (98.6%) are NOT VACCINATED.

● Many young adults and children test positive and are hospitalized, some in critical condition.

They ask everyone to join them to keep our children, pregnant women and the community safer by promoting this:

• All eligible people must be vaccinated

• Everyone should be responsibly masked, vaccinated or not, especially in schools and large meetings

• Social distancing and hand washing should be practiced

“We can keep our children and the community safer. They depend on us and our responsibility is to help protect them. Now is the time, ”the statement said.

The Indiana State Department of Health reported 2,349 new cases and zero deaths on Monday.

This brings the total pandemic in the state to 910,013 cases and 14,391 deaths.

“We’re talking about pregnant mothers and children who are definitely not eligible for the vaccine. Therefore, adults in our community who meet the requirements to be fully vaccinated help protect those who may not be able to.” , said Strader McMillen.

The state map shows 105 new cases in Vanderburgh County, 37 cases in Warrick County, 14 cases in Dubois County, 11 cases in Posey County, eight new cases in Gibson County, six cases in Perry County, two cases new in Pike County, and a new case in Spencer County.
