The video captured the moment a heroic grandmother chased an aspiring thief after she reportedly tried to snatch her bag from an outdoor table where the woman was eating.

The woman allegedly was considering her own business when the suspect approached her table, grabbed her purse and fled the scene on foot.

It didn’t get far.

What are the details?

According to Australian news agency Seven News, the incident took place outside the Pimpama Tavern on the Gold Coast of Australia on 19 January.

Surveillance footage captured the moment the woman takes off her shoes, chases the possible thief and directs him to the ground after he grabs the bag from the table and takes off.

When the fight pours from the sidewalk onto the road, the woman can be seen placing the man – later identified as the Alta Coomera – in what appears to be a head lock before rip off the bag and leave the scene.

The suspect then gets into a white truck and leaves the scene.

The woman, who was out celebrating her birthday, suffered cracked ribs, cuts and bruises as a result of the fight.

Beginning at age 60, she reported that the woman is the grandmother of at least 10 grandchildren.

Queensland police were able to locate the suspect and arrest him on theft charges.

The Daily Telegraph reported Thursday that the suspect was identified as Troy Charles Bennett.

Bennett appeared in court Wednesday, where he was said to have “hidden in the courtroom toilets” for more than an hour before leaving with a coronavirus mask and sunglasses.

“He tried to hide behind two prosecutors as they were leaving the court despite their efforts to stay away from the cameras,” the media noted. “Then Bennett bumped into Mal Burke’s parking lot across the road from the courthouse.”
