A series of videos have surfaced showing the body of separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani was wrapped in the Pakistani flag before being arrested by Jammu and Kashmir police who buried him on Thursday morning. Police said a case has been registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act Prevention of Illegal Activities Act or UAPA.

The 92-year-old pro-Pakistani separatist died Wednesday evening. After his death there was a reduction in security and the suspension of telephone and Internet services in Kashmir.

The videos came after Internet and broadband phone services were restored in Kashmir last night. Mobile internet service, however, remains blocked. Police have also imposed restrictions to prevent meetings.

In one of the videos, several people, mostly women, are seen around the body of Syed Ali Shah Geelani wrapped in a Pakistani flag.

In the room there is commotion and slogan. The women seem to resist in the middle of pushing and pushing at the door. An armed policeman is also seen in the room full of traffic jams, with walls inscribed with religious verses.

The hardline separatist received a discreet burial before Thursday morning. The family alleges that police forcibly took the body away and were not even allowed to participate in the last rights.

“FIR has been registered in all anti-national activities,” said Dilbag Singh, director general of Jammu and Kashmir police.

Singh said people in the separatist house were misbehaving with a senior superintendent of police and other police officers and that there were a lot of anti-national slogans and attempts to instigate people through social media and phone calls.

“We never expected such rebellious behavior from the family and other people in the Geelani house, especially because the police were in regular contact with the family and Geelani Sahab. In fact, Geelani Sahab gave a book to one of the our agents when he visited him last week. “Singh said.

The Geelani family alleges that the body was taken by force by the police who broke down doors and misbehaved with women.

“We wanted the funeral in the morning, but the police refused. They opened doors and misbehaved with the women. We could not attend the last rights after taking the body by force,” said Naseem Geelani , son of Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

But police said some of Mr Geelani’s relatives took part in his funeral prayers. The separatist was buried in a cemetery near his residence in Hyderpora, on the road to Srinagar airport.

Restrictions have been imposed throughout Kashmir over the past three days. All shops are closed and public transport is off the road.

On Friday, congregational prayers were not allowed in major mosques and shrines.
