RICHMOND, Va. (WDBJ) – The Virginia Department of Health reports 327,993 total cases of COVID-19 across the community as of Friday, Dec. 25, dating back to the start of the pandemic in March. This is 4,078 compared to 323,915 reported on Thursday, a smaller increase than the 4,782 new cases on Thursday.

4,070,000 PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests have been performed the same number as reported on Thursday, with a positivity rate of 11.5% over the last week, also the same number as was reported Thursday.
As of Friday, there have been 4,820 recorded coronavirus-related deaths in the commonwealth since the start of the pandemic. That exceeds the 4,791 reported Thursday.
2,478 people in Virginia are hospitalized as of Friday with confirmed or pending cases of COVID-19 testing, below the 2,577 reported Thursday.
29,131 COVID patients have been discharged from Virginia hospitals since the beginning of the pandemic. According to the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association, it receives a daily report from community hospitals.
These hospital figures are different from those reported by VDH, which only meets the state of hospitalization at the time VDH investigates each case and is an underrepresentation of Virginia hospitalizations.

Any new confirmed case of health departments across the state the rest of the day will not appear on the state list at least the next day, as official numbers are only updated once a day, with a limit of 17 hours each day for new cases that will be reflected in the list the next day.
