The winner of the Sri Lanka beauty contest suffers head-to-head wounds

It wasn’t exactly the crowning he was looking for.

A beauty queen contestant won the title of Mrs. Sri Lanka over the weekend; he only ended up in the hospital with head injuries after Mrs World ripped off his crown with a touch to award it to the runner-up.

The ugly body on stage erupted moments after winning contestant Pushpika De Silva was awarded Sunday night at a Colombo theater, according to Time 24 News media.

Mrs. World Caroline Jurie, who is from Sri Lanka and attended the event, suddenly jumped on stage and grabbed the microphone, claiming that De Silva was divorced and therefore disqualified from occupying the title.

“There’s a rule that prevents women who have already been married and divorced, so I’m taking steps to get the crown in second place,” Jurie told the stunned crowd.

Jurie then ripped off the golden crown from De Silva’s head and placed it in second place, causing tears and chaos, the media reported.

De Silva had to be hospitalized for tearing off the head of the crown, in addition to injuries, Time24 said, citing a local newspaper.

The contestant later posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed on her Facebook page, while denying he was divorced.

“The pain in my skull when the crown was snatched from my head by the beauty queen married the world, the pain I felt when I lost the crown …” De Silva wrote.

“I say that a true queen is not a woman who snatches another woman’s crown, but a woman who [helps straighten] another woman’s crown !!

“I know you are waiting for my answer to the unexpected incident that happened. Although I have a lot to say, I will post here only the essentials, ”De Silva said.

She acknowledged that she and her husband live apart, but insisted, “I’m not a divorced woman.”

She has since been formally declared a winner again, according to Newsfirst.
