SINGAPORE – A mother of three admitted she had abused her two daughters with her violence against the girls captured in CCTV footage.
The 38-year-old appeared on Thursday (September 16) via a video link to plead guilty to seven of her eleven charges, all of them for abusing her daughters.
The eldest daughter, now 10, often bore the brunt of the aggression and at one point lost a tooth to a particularly brutal slap from her mother. The girl was eight and ten years old at the time of the crimes.
His second daughter, now six, was four at the time of the crimes. The woman has a child of unknown age. She is not a victim.
Not all children can be named due to a gag order imposed by the court.
On June 21, 2019, police received a report from KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) that the woman had assaulted, slapped and kicked the eldest daughter, causing her to lose two front teeth.
Around December 19, 2018, the father installed a CCTV camera in the living room as his wife often left the three children alone at home.
On June 18, 2019, the man came home to check that his eldest daughter’s front teeth were breaking. The girl revealed that her mother had kicked her, causing her mouth to bleed and her front teeth to break. The father took the girl to seek medical attention at KKH.
He then checked the CCTV recordings and discovered that his wife had assaulted the two girls on other occasions.
The girl later revealed that her mother started beating her when she was in kindergarten. The beatings got worse in 2018, when the girl started primary school. The girl did not talk to anyone about the assault, as she feared that her mother would hit her harder. He didn’t know he could trust his teachers.
When confronted, the woman said she was “disciplining her children because they were very naughty.” He claimed that he only hit them when necessary and, above all, scolded them or put them on the floor in his room or made them look at the wall.
The abuse took place from June 2019 to August 2021, with CCTV footage revealing the woman’s brutality towards her eldest daughter. In the seven recordings played in court, he can be seen throwing the girl to the floor, dragging her by the hair from the living room to the bedroom and throwing a marker at her head. She is also seen punching the girl.
In the only footage with audio played in the yard, the woman can be seen stretching her daughter’s ear in the kitchen and scolding her with a mixture of English and Malay, with the girl hearing sobs.
At the end of the exchange, the woman is heard shouting, “Now get out of my face” to the girl, coming out of the kitchen.
When the woman was investigated, she would deny certain actions.
After an incident on July 5, 2019, after the woman had pinched her youngest daughter and slapped her in the face, the two girls were temporarily taken home on August 22, 2019 by an agent. child protection. However, the children were later returned and the abuse continued.
On December 1, 2019, the woman threw a marker in front of her eldest daughter after the girl complained about her siblings. Realizing that her daughter’s head was bleeding, the woman told the girl that she “deserved it” and asked her to “get out of the house,” which she apologized to the girl for.
Her husband alerted the child protection officer, who said he would come to the house the next day. Upon learning that the officer was going around, the woman asked her daughter to lie that the girl and her mother had only been playing when a toy hit her forehead.
After noticing that his wife was losing her temper to the children for no reason in August of this year, the man watched the closed circuit television and was shocked when his wife again abused his children. daughters earlier this year, despite being charged with child abuse and placed on bail. . He alerted child protection services.
In the course of the investigations, the woman claimed that she was a disciple of her daughter so that she would behave while going to jail.
A psychiatric report indicated that the woman did not have a diagnosable mental illness at the time of the crimes, nor that she currently suffers from any condition.
Nor did he demonstrate a compelling level of knowledge of how his methods would affect children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development.
The woman also showed some degree of resistance in adopting acceptable alternative methods to teach her children.
The report indicated that any future interaction between the woman and her children should be strictly monitored by responsible adults, as the possibility of using harsh punishment on her children remained high.
He will return to court for his sentence on September 29.
