A woman was found dead Wednesday near Santa Barbara’s boardwalk, but no gambling is suspected, according to the Santa Barbara police department.
Officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched around 11:40 a.m. after a passerby found the body adjacent to the railroad tracks near Milpas Street, Lt. Aaron Baker told Noozhawk.
“It looked like he had been walking down the tracks,” Baker said of the woman, who looked between the 1920s and mid-1930s.
The woman’s name was not released pending positive identification and notification of relatives, and the cause and circumstances of her death were pending, Baker said.
Detectives were called to the scene, Baker said, but added that “there’s no reason to believe it’s a dirty game.”
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Forensic Office was sent to pick up the body and will conduct an investigation into the death.
