The woman’s family uses the obituary to blame unvaccinated for her death on COVID-19

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (Gray News) – An Illinois family sends a message to the unvaccinated through the obituary of their loved one. The 66-year-old woman is said to have been vaccinated against COVID-19, but was still infected and died because others rejected the shots.

Candace “Candy” Ayers, 66, died of COVID-19 at an Illinois hospital on Sept. 3, more than a month after she was diagnosed with the virus in late July despite being completely vaccinated, according to informs The State Journal-Register.

Her husband, Terry Ayers, and two adult children were heartbroken by her loss, but also angry. They used Candace Ayers ’obituary to call those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

“It was preceded by the deaths of more than 4,531,799 people infected with COVID-19. She was vaccinated, but was infected by others who chose not to be vaccinated. The cost cost him his life, ”the obituary said.

Marc Ayers, 36-year-old son of Candace Ayers, says he wants those who are not vaccinated to realize that his decision is affecting others.

“All of this is so avoidable,” he told the Journal-Register. “People have politicized it and they have done it on politics. These are the people who have perpetuated the cycle of pain for our family and for so many others. “

Candace Ayers was completely vaccinated against COVID-19 in the spring. Her family believes she caught the virus on a four-day trip to Mississippi in mid-July to visit a friend who lost her husband to COVID-19, according to the Journal-Register.

Mississippi had one of the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the country during the summer, but Candace Ayers’ family and doctor thought she would be safe because she herself was vaccinated.

Both Candace Ayers and her husband caught the virus. She developed only mild symptoms and recovered, but ended up hospitalized for a month, the last three weeks, with a ventilator. Her family told the Journal-Register that she had rheumatoid arthritis and believed it put her at a higher risk of complications from COVID-19.

Candace Ayers ’family made the tough decision to remove her from the ventilator due to the severe irreversible lung damage from COVID-19. He died minutes after disconnecting her, with his family by his side.

Marc Ayers says he believes his mother would like his obituary, the Journal-Register reports. He has received positive responses from vaccinated friends and hopes to change the opinion of some people about vaccinations.

“You just have to wear a mask and get a shot,” he said. “You just have to bend over a little.”

Candace Ayers was survived by her nearly 43-year-old husband, son, daughter, Amanda Foster, and 5-year-old triplet grandchildren.
