After spending so much time at home over the past year, many people yearn for a change in their environment.

But if a coat of paint or some creative renovations fail to do the trick, now there’s a more extreme alternative: the digital home.

Mars House, the world’s first NFT (non-fungible token) digital home, was recently sold for more than $ 500,000.

NFTs have been headlines recently and have made it possible to sell digital art and other reflections such as drawings or music online.

An NFT is a unique digital token that effectively verifies authenticity and ownership. It is encrypted with the artist’s signature on the blockchain, a digital book used in cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.

The new owner paid digital artist Krista Kim 288 Ether, a digital currency equivalent to $ 514,557.79, for the virtual property.

In return, the buyer will receive 3D files to upload to their “metaverse”.

Metaverse is a virtual extension of our world, Kim told CNN on Tuesday, where virtual land is bought and marketed and digital homes and businesses are built.

There is a market for digital assets such as fashion and accessories and users can live and interact in a metavers through their digital avatar.

Kim said the concept behind the house was “inspired to be closed during the pandemic.”

Kim, who describes herself as an “artist of technology,” told CNN, “Mars House represents the next generation of NFT. It’s a sign of things to come, as we enter a future of augmented reality.” augmented reality) with the launch of Apple AR Glasses and AR Contact Lenses.

“Art, NFTs, cryptocurrencies … these radical changes and ideas about how we will coexist with digital assets are becoming a reality and will create a global paradigm shift.

“Also, after being confined because of Covid-19, we need more innovative ideas about how our inner environments can heal us, as mental health has become a major concern for everyone.”

The house is thought to “omit a healing zen atmosphere,” Kim said in an Instagram post earlier this month.

The artist said he teamed up with musician Jeff Schroeder of The Smashing Pumpkins to create a soothing musical accompaniment.

Record month for NFT

The sale took place last week, which adds to what has been a record month for NFTs.

On Monday, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sold the first tweet ever published as NFT for $ 2.9 million. The tweet, which said “just set up my twttr,” was posted on March 21, 2006.

The first NFT work of art to sell in action for an impressive $ 69 million on March 11, placed artist Beeple near the top of the most expensive living artists to date.

And Gucci has launched digital-only footwear sales at a price of hundreds of dollars below what their physical shoes usually sell.
