The suffering Yankees could not afford to drop another game and certainly could not afford to lose their best pitcher, but the costly Ls continued to pile up on Tuesday night.
Ace Gerrit Cole marched into the fourth inning with what the team announced as tension in the left corner, and the Yankees suffered their eighth loss in 10 games after a 13-game winning streak, 5- 1, against the growing Blue Jays at the Stadium.
Cole then said the output of the game was “super disappointing” and was “quite annoying,” but the $ 324 million right expressed his hope to start the next one.
“It’s difficult to say right now. Obviously, I’m disappointed with today’s result, “Cole said.” I just want to reserve judgment and see how this thing reacts in the next 24-36 hours. if I need a few more days.
“I will definitely be as smart as possible and trust my instincts. … I hope you are able to do the following. We’ll see how it shakes. ”

The Yanks (78-60), at least, maintained their half-game lead over the Red Sox (losers again against fugitive AL East leaders, the Rays) to take the top spot with wildcards, but the Jays have suddenly moved to 2 1/2 games from Aaron Boone’s club with their sixth straight win. They will have two more chances to get closer to this week’s four-game series.
Boone settled on a couple of regulars (Joey Gallo and Gleyber Torres), but former Mets left-back Steven Matz limited the Yankees to a run of seven hits in six innings to improve to 11-7.
According to the YES Network, the Yankees have not been able to record an extra walk or base in successive games for only the fourth time in team history and the first time since June 1962.
“Compared to [Monday]”At least we’re making good changes to the balls, but the bottom line is we need to be better,” Boone said of Monday’s 8-0 loss. “We have our guys now, and if we’ll be the team we hope to be be, our offense must carry this merchandise for us. We have to make it roll. ”
Cole, 31 (14-7, 2.78), entered roulette and was one of the first to qualify for the AL Cy Young award. But Matz, the Long Islander left-hander from the Mets last winter, also managed to pitch well in Toronto, with an ERA of 1.65 over his previous six outings since Aug. 4.
Cole had already allowed three runs (two wins) when he signaled for a coach after a sacrifice by Toronto player Reese McGuire for the second of the fourth inning. After a brief discussion with Boone, Cole came out of the mound with the Yanks in line, 3-1.
“I was a few pitches trying to weigh the pros and cons, and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get past the entry,” Cole said. “You just need a worse one to make it worse.”
Boone said he appreciated Cole’s caution in this situation and hopes to “avoid something more serious.” There is currently no MRI scheduled for Cole, Boone added.
“I know when I talk to Gerrit, he feels very optimistic about it, which appeared to him before,” Boone said. “Hopefully, it’s something that came out enough and we’ll see where we are in the next few days.”
Cole was replaced by right-hander Albert Abreu, who came out of that inning before allowing an early score to Marcus Semien (38th) in fifth place by a 4-1 match. Cole had also conceded a solo home run in the second inning to Alejandro Kirk, who pitted again against Clay Holmes in the eighth.

And the Yanks ’offense couldn’t pick up his left ace, and threw his only run against Matz in an Anthony Rizzo single RBI in the third.
“Viously, obviously worried about him and his health. You never want to see anyone leave a game under any circumstances, especially our horse, ”Rizzo said of Cole. “Hopefully, it’s a quick recovery for him. … Gerrit is a big part of what we’re trying to achieve here. “
