CBS has released a new clip of the long-awaited position of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with Oprah Winfrey, in which Markle says about Buckingham Palace: “I don’t know how they could expect that after all this time, we would still be in silence. “
“How do you feel about the Palace hearing your truth from you today?” Winfrey asks as the violins begin to inflate dramatically in the background.
“I don’t know how they would expect that after all this time, we would still be silent, if there is an active role the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” says Markle, using a nickname for the Royal allegedly originated by the king. George VI.
“And if that carries the risk of losing things,” he adds, “there are a lot of things that have already been lost.”
Much of the conversation surrounding this week’s interview has been monopolized by allegations made against Markle, 39, who intimidated at least two palace aides during his short time within the company. The Times of London cited sources who said the Duchess of Sussex effectively reduced employees to tears during her tenure at Kensington Palace.
Markle called the allegations a “calculated defamation campaign” for Winfrey, as Buckingham Palace announced an investigation into the allegations Wednesday.
Markle and Harry left the royal family and moved to Stateside in a breathless January 2020 cover decision called “Megxit.”
