The President of the Senate, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, has advocated this Tuesday in a radio interview for a ‘lockdown’ or closure of 14 days in most activities in the country to contain the wave of contagion by COVID-19.

“If we do not close the country for 14 days these cases of COVID-19 will continue to increase,” Dalmau Santiago said in a radio interview with Normand Valentí on Tomorrow for Notiuno 630.

“A while ago, we are late to do so (the closure). The medical ‘task force’ has been announcing for three weeks that the increases will continue. How do we stop it if we do not close?” The Senate president questioned.

“I know there is an important sector of the economy to care for but what good is it if we have hospitals full and people are going to keep getting infected and dying,” Dalmau Santiago said.

“This needs to be assessed calmly, but I’m sure we’re going to have to close. Cases continue to rise. They increased today more than yesterday (in the Department of Health reports), and tomorrow they will increase more than today, unfortunately.” concluded Dalmau Santiago.
