A spectacular bright meteor was visible over Puerto Rico at 11:21 pm last Sunday, January 24, according to the Caribbean Astronomical Society (SAC).
She pointed out that the fireball was visible all over the island, looking in a southwesterly direction. “It was really bright, as the images reveal that it briefly illuminated other areas of the sky,” the organization noted.
Reports indicate that during the brief moments in which it was visible, the meteor showed beautiful colors that appeared to change from blue-green to turquoise, then between yellow-orange, and again turquoise, as seen in images it captured. the educational entity.

“After analyzing the trajectory of the meteor, it could be confirmed that it came from the constellation of Cancer, so it was another ‘Delta Cancrid’, as well as other bright sighted meteors in recent nights from the Island, ”the SAC noted.
The fragments that cause the Delta Cancrids have an orbit similar to that of the asteroid 2001 YB5, so it is not ruled out that it is debris released by this space rock. The organization had advanced that there was a possibility of sighting some other bright meteor until January 24, as it happened. However, the remarkable activity of bright meteors suggests that it is likely to see additional meteors for at least a couple of weeks, it was indicated.
