The Public Prosecutor’s Office has information on the arrest of Roel Werner Martínez Romero, mayor of the municipality of El Tránsito in San Miguel, for the crimes of aggravated homicide, terrorist organizations and financing of acts of terrorism.

Presuntament the mayor of El Tránsito would be involved in the murder of two councilors of that municipality, committed by members of gangs. The murdered councilors are José Guadalupe Quintanilla and José Aquiles Segovia, who happened on April 16, 2019 and August 13, 2018 respectively.

For this crime will also be prosecuted the municipal secretary, Ángel Antonio Quintanilla, as well as the municipal place, José Amílcar Bustillos for the crime of terrorist organizations.

Two employees of the Usulután Penitentiary Surveillance Court have also been arrested, identified as: Kelvin Rubí Aguilar Cáceres and Julio Alfredo Chacón Mejía for allegedly collaborating and providing information to terrorist groups.

Others captured also in Morazán will be prosecuted for the crimes of proposal and conspiracy in the crime of aggravated homicide, aggravated extortion and terrorist organizations. According to the tax indictment, the detainees make monetary demands on the victims of the transportation and trade sector, which from more than $ 2,800 per month and $ 500.

The capture of the mayor and public employees are part of an operation carried out in the early hours of Tuesday by the Attorney General’s Office in conjunction with the PNC.

The Prosecutor’s Office ordered the capture of 322 members of mothers in the departments of San Miguel, Usulután, La Unión and Morazán.

With this operation they would be answering for 60 aggravated homicides, 76 cases of extortion, 44 cases of proposals and conspiracy in the crime of homicide, 11 deprivations of liberty, seven cases of illicit drug trafficking, three attempted aggravated homicides and terrorist organizations.

So far, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has reported 62 actual arrests and 125 cases in which it has notified (notified of new charges) defendants who are in different penitentiary centers and police stations in San Miguel and Morazán.

According to the National Civil Police, which accompanied the operation to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, dismantle 29 cliques in the departments of Usulután, specifically in the municipalities of Puerto Parada, Jiquilisco, Jucuarán, San Rafael Oriente, Berlin, and in the municipalities of El Tránsito and Ciudad Barrios in San Miguel.

Also present at the operation were Security Minister Rogelio Rivas and a representative of the FBI (US Federal Bureau of Investigation). Minister Rivas thanked the US government.
