The director of the National Police (PN), Major General Edward Sánchez González, reported that a joint commission composed of members of the police and the Ministry of Defense was created to investigate the incident between an agent of the Directorate General of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) and a general.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Palacio Nacional, where Gonzalez noted that the commission was set up to manage the situation and take action in this regard.
“The Minister is appointing the Inspector General of the Armed Forces, we are appointing the Inspector General of the National Police by a joint commission, to carry out the situation in which this happened and issue the report corresponding at the right time, “he said.
The initiative was taken following an altercation that took place last Monday in the National District, where José Manuel Fredes Rodríguez, who was identified like the brigadier general, he scolded two Digesett agents for not “showing respect” when it came to inspecting.
Rodriguez had parked on a stretch of the DN bike path, an area where this action is prohibited.
In a video that went viral on social media, Rodriguez is visualized demanding that officers be put in “attention” for his rank of general.
“Pay attention to Amet, pay attention to Amet, but what is this?” Rodriguez warned one of the traffic officers.
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, he called on the Dominican people to respect members of the National Police and Armed Forces, who “are working more united than ever.”
Abinader noted that given that the country is experiencing an unprecedented situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, frictions can occur so it is important for the population to maintain order.
