The president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Puerto Rico, Victor Ramos, has indicated that more than ten cases are currently being evaluated on the island to corroborate whether they are infected with the new British strain of coronavirus COVID-19.
In an interview with Radio Island, Ramos detailed that these are 16 samples, as these people had contact with positive cases of VOCID in the state of Florida.
“Certainly there is a lot of travel history here to places where it is already positive strain, especially in Florida, and basically there have been people who have had travel history and have had contact with people who have already certified that in these states they had the variant and samples have been sent to sequence and confirm that it is the variant and will probably come out positive, “said the health worker in an interview with Radio Island.” These are people who had contact with people who have already tested positive in the states in the variant “, he added.

Like the appointed Secretary of the Department of Health, Carlos Mellado, Ramos is convinced that the new strain has already arrived on the island. “I think here too, this is a matter of verifying-,” he expressed in the radio interview.
On January 18, in an interview with the same station Mellado indicated that “thinking otherwise would be illusory.”
As of yesterday, according to Telemundo’s website, 92 cases had been reported in Florida, with the United States having the highest number of such cases.
