They launch 5 rockets against a US military base in Afghanistan

Kabul, Afghanistan – They fired 5 rockets at a major U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Saturday, those that caused no casualties, NATO and provincial officials reported.

The rockets crashed at Bagram Airport, said Wahida Shahkar, a spokesman for the governor of northern Parwan province.

Shahkar said the perpetrators of the attack placed 12 rockets in a truck and fired five of them, while police disarmed the remaining seven.

He could not give further details about possible casualties or damage within the base, but clarified that there were no civilian casualties in the area.

A NATO official confirmed the attack and said that according to initial reports, the airstrip was not damaged.

In the immediate future no one claimed the attack. In April, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for five rocket attacks at the base. There were no casualties.

ISIS has also claimed several attacks in Kabul in recent months, including on educational institutions that left half a hundred dead, mostly students.

Violence has resurfaced in Afghanistan at a time when Taliban and Afghan government negotiators are holding talks in Qatar in an attempt to reach an agreement that will end decades of war. The Taliban has fought ISIS, especially in the east of the country, while continuing its insurgency against the government.
