Several institutions paid tribute today to Colonel Juan María Lora Fernández and other martyrs of the battle of the Hotel Matum, 55 years after the feat.
The activity was organized by the Permanent Commission of Homeland Ephemeris, the Lora Fernández Foundation, the Ministry of Defense and the Provincial Government of Santiago.
Representatives of these institutions placed floral offerings on the statue of the martyr fallen in combat during the battle of December 19, 1965.
The words of the act were in charge of lieutenant colonel Juan Manuel Dark-brown Leon, president of the foundation and son of the national hero.
For his part, the President of the Permanent Commission of Homeland Ephemeris, Joan Pau Uribe, presented a plaque of recognition to the President of the Hotel Matum, Ulisses Polanco, for working to preserve historical memory and acknowledged the support of the activity of Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Luciano Díaz Morga.
Uribe to specify that the values and ideals of democracy must be strengthened, Solidarity, dignity, decorum, civility and courage, as demonstrated by the Matum fighters, 55 years ago.
In this battle an attempt was made to assassinate the leader of the April Revolution, Francisco Caamaño and other important figures, those who traveled to Santiago to pay tribute to the founder of the Constitutionalist Movement, Rafael Tomás Fernández Domínguez, who on this day celebrated seven months of his heroic fall, in an attempt to assault the National Palace.
