They repatriated 41 Creoles who served sentences in the U.S.; 19 of them for drug trafficking

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) repatriated 41 Dominican ex-prisoners to the country on Tuesday, 19 of them for drug trafficking, after serving sentences in U.S. prisons.

The group, made up of 40 men and a woman, was flown by the Americas airport, on a commercial aircraft registration number SWQ3578 of SWIFT AIR LLC, with flight number N529 AU, from the city of Alexandria , Louisiana, United States.

The returnees were received in an operation set up by authorities from the General Directorate of Migration, the Specialized Body for Airport Security and Civil Aviation CESAC and the National Directorate for Drug Control DNCD and other agencies.

According to the files of the deportees, 19 of them complied with codenas for sales and distribution of narcotic drugs, while another 14 were incarcerated serving sentences for violating immigration laws.

The rest served sentences for homicides, robberies, bank fraud, kidnappings, possession of firearms, terrorist threats, armed robberies and other misdemeanors.

Upon arrival at the airport, the Migration and Public Health authorities subjected them to screening tests for Covid-19 and other medical examinations, before boarding the buses that would take them to the headquarters of the Directorate General of Migration.

So far this year 2021 the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service has deported 385 nationals to the country after serving the sentence in that nation.

According to statistics, in 2020 the US government deported 1,419 Dominicans to the Dominican Republic after serving sentences in prisons in different US states accused of various federal crimes.

The deportations of Dominicans who have committed crimes in the United States occur through extradition agreements signed by the government of the Dominican Republic and the American nation, dating from 1910, and which was rectified in 2016.
