With 46 insurance of goods of alleged illicit origin, two seizures, nine raids and seven inspections, the Public Ministry start this Monday the Operation Sigma, a new blow to the delight of money laundering.
The actions are carried out in the departments of Copán, Lempira, Cortés and Yoro, are headed by the Special Operations Fiscal Unit and the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime (Fescco) after two years of investigations that will follow in the footsteps of more than 200 million lampreys.
The first indications of the case were obtained from a series of raids carried out on 3 May 2019 in the city of Santa Rosa de Copà by prosecutors in coordination with the Police Directorate of Investigations (DPI) and the Police Office of Financial Investigations (OPIF), later joining the National Police Anti-Drug Directorate (Dnpa) , the National Directorate of Border Police Services (Dnspf) and the Directorate of Police Intelligence (Dipol).

Through field and patrimonial diligences, the Public Ministry, according to details by means of a communiqué, can identify the incorporation of mercantile societies like “Zapatón”, among others, in the same way the acquisition of movable and immovable goods carried out by the investigated in this file during the period included from the 2001 to 2018.
Also, the prosecutors and the official forces assure that they managed to establish that the denounced ones performed transfers of activities constantly, all this without any economic or lawful justification of its procedure.

In this way, the Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit against the alleged money launderers before a court with national jurisdiction, proceeding with executors in Santa Rosa de Copan and La Entrada, in the department of Copán; The Virtue, in the department of Lempira; Yorito, El Negrito and El Progreso in the department of Yoro; Puerto Cortés, San Pedro Sula and Villanueva, in the department of Cortés.

In total, the assets to be insured within the framework of Operation Sigma correspond to 27 real estates (residences and land), from two companies, branches and 17 vehicles.
