They seek to turn RD into a major private general aviation destination in the Caribbean

The airport sector of the Dominican Republic is launching the necessary measures to make the country the main destination of the Caribbean in terms of private aviation, through the promotion of the various tourist attractions and facilities offered to business travelers, high-consumption tourists and general aviation enthusiasts.

The director of the Airport Department (DA) Víctor Pichardo, in participating in Lakeland, Florida, in the “SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo 2021 Aviation Fair”, the support of all Dominican institutions linked to aeronautical, airport and tourism, in search of capturing the more than 40,000 private aircraft flying to the Caribbean, which would positively impact domestic tourism.

“This is the first time that all institutions in the sector have come together to support an event like this, which translates into a clear signal that we are working to strengthen national private aviation,” Pichardo said in the event, held from the 13th to the 18th of this month, which included world-class technology exhibitions, forums, workshops, fairs and world-famous air shows.

This year a wide participation of the Dominican delegation was obtained, where besides Pichardo, the deputy director of the IDAC participated, Héctor Porcella; the president of the JAC, José Mart Piantini; the head of the CESAC, General Carlos Febrillet; the head of the Air Force, General Leonel Muñoz; the director of Migration, Enrique García; Frank Rainieri, CEO of the Punta Cana group; Oscar Villanueva, Vice President of the VIAMAR Group.

Also in the entourage were Wendy Just representing the Miami tourist office, Carlos Núñez and Carlos Rodolí, AERODOM, The Dominican Aeroclub 74 and Quisqueya, Franklin Polanco, IDAC Advisor, Abelardo Rutinel and Marcello Mazzilli, deputy directors of the DA, Christiern Broberg, technical director of the DA and the pilots Edwin Sánchez and Luís Suazo.

The Airport Department was in charge of the assembly fair of the “Pavilion of the Dominican Republic”, where assistance was offered to visitors interested in visiting the country through private flights, in addition to the delivery of promotional material, information on how to get to the country and the facilities it has in terms of airport and tourism.

In addition, they worked on the tasks of assembly, adaptation, construction of the pavilion and the dissemination of information, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Civil Aviation Board (JAC), Corps Specializing in Airport Security and Civil Aviation (CESAC), as well as Punta Cana International Airport, Cibao Airport in Santiago, La Romana Airport and the company Dominican Airports 21st Century Aerodom ).

The SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Exhibition is Florida’s largest annual convention of any kind, with an exhibition of hundreds of aircraft of all shapes and sizes. It began in 1974 as a fly-in for sports aviation enthusiasts, and since then more than 225,000 visitors each year go to what is known as the “Opening of the Aviation Season.”

On stage, practical workshops are also held to teach hundreds of construction and maintenance skills, and dozens of forums educate pilots and maintainers on safety, new products, and an infinite number of other current topics.
