The Senate sent to the health commission the request for a state of emergency made by the Executive Branch, and which has already been approved in the Chamber of Deputies.
The request was made by the senator of the People’s Force Dionis Sánchez Carrasco, who asked that the new state of emergency be sent to a commission where it is studied, and then issued explanations of whether the country needs another.
The legislator asked in his speech to the upper house “a clearer explanation” of why the country needs a new state of emergency.
“On this occasion I would like to have a clearer explanation of why we need a state of emergency at this time, so we understand that it must be sent to a commission so that it can be elucidated, discussed and investigated there and that be explained extensively why we need a state of emergency right now, ”he said.
The senator for the province of Pedernales said he had voted for 15 states of emergency that have been presented to the National Congress at the request of the Executive Branch.
In addition, the senator for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) for the province Elías Pinya, Yvan Lorenzo, joined the approach of the People’s Force, to send the request to a commission where study the reasons for approving a new state of emergency.
“The PLD senators’ bloc, like my fellow friends and family in the People’s Force, is proposing that this request from the president go to a committee so that we can study it in moderation and so that we can discuss it. “It’s much more serious,” he added.
Following these requests, the President of the Senate of the Republic, Eduardo Estrella, approved the request of the opposition parties. The state of emergency requested by President Luis Abinader is for another 45 days.
