They will cite an organizer of activity that brought together hundreds of people in Montehiedra

Authorities will summon today the alleged organizer of the activity that crowded hundreds of people last Saturday night, in the parking lot of oulets shopping center in Montehiedra, in the face of possible violation of the executive order against the COVID-19.

This was announced this afternoon by the appointed Secretary of Health, Carlos Mellado, in a press conference at La Fortalesa.

“Yes, he was identified and I understand that today he will be quoted,” said Mellado.

Yesterday, in an interview with The New Day, The director of the Research Office of the Department of Health, Jesús Hernández, had indicated that through interviews they managed to establish the identity of the alleged organizer.

But as corroborations were lacking to confirm this, he indicated that he could not disclose his identity publicly.

“When we arrived, they started to disperse and leave the area. But with the help of the mall we set up confrontation points, to do car-by-car, one-on-one interviews, until we could find the information from the possible organizer of the event. We are in the process of establishing communication with this person, “Hernandez said yesterday.

He commented that they were “people who gather in shopping malls and in different parts of the island to share vehicle information. Sometimes they race on the roads, but we couldn’t establish that in this case.”

“The worrying thing is that there were hundreds of people there, with hundreds of cars. For us it is an extreme concern, because there was no distancing, sharing with others, riding in different vehicles without any prevention. Here what we want is save lives, “he said.

For his part, Mellado said today that event organizers can apply for exemptions which are approved if they meet a number of requirements.

“It should be remembered that activities can be carried out as long as they request a waiver from the Secretariat of the Interior and comply with specific and timely protocol of number of people, masks and measures,” Mellado said.

“This activity (Saturday) had no dispensation. They sent a message and the Police arrived in less than ten minutes and could be found the organizer of the event. It will be processed today by the Department of Health, in collaboration with the Police, the summons of the person and possible infractions will be referred to the Department of Justice, ”he stated.
