On October 3, 2016, American star Kim Kardashian was the victim of a spectacular robbery during Paris Fashion Week. The loot was valued at 9 million euros (almost 11 million dollars and approximately 39 billion Colombian pesos).
One of the protagonists of the robbery, Yunice Abbas, has just published the book ‘J’ai Sequestre Kim Kardashian’ (‘I kidnap Kim Kardashian’) explaining her version of the robbery.
Abbas is now 67 years old, has two children and 3 grandchildren.

The author claimed for the French medium ‘Paris Match’ that before the event he had never heard of the celebrity. This made it easier for Aomar Aït Khedache, the ringleader of the assault, to hide the magnitude of the plan.
“He just told me that our victim was the wife of a famous rapper. I didn’t want to know more at the time,” he recounted.
He was detained for 22 months for this case and since October 2018 he is on bail pending trial.
An unconventional criminal gang
His group was known as ‘the band of grandparents’, because its five members were between 60 and 72 years old.
But behind their ‘loving grandparents’ faces were men with a broad criminal past who planned the coup for weeks.
Abbas told ‘Paris Match’ that “someone from the Kardashian family team” gave them the information of where they were staying. Once with this clear data, members of the band made intelligence to know the times in which they left and entered the place.
The day of the robbery
Everything was aligned so that the robbery came out perfectly.
The star’s bodyguard, one of his sisters and a driver they hired in Paris went to a nightclub. His mother, meanwhile, went to a hotel. And she stayed in the apartment next to her personal secretary. “What interested us was his diamond. That was what attracted us. I had photos with him everywhere,” Abbas said in an interview with EFE about the engagement ring. he had given Kardashian his partner, rapper Kanye West.
(He might also be interested: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West would be in crisis and about to break up).
The gang entered the scene with fake police jackets. According to Abbas in ‘Paris Match’, they opted for this locker room because of the police raids in the area in search of drugs.
He said he did not see the actress directly, but was in charge of detaining the caretaker of the building. His team picked up the man in the apartment to use him as a translator, because he spoke English.
For Abbas the robbery was simple and quick, as Kardashian did everything they asked of him. Also, the loot was bigger than expected as they found a lot of luxury jewelry.
“There was no need to threaten. She collaborated. In general it’s always like that. There’s no reason to resist, it would be silly.”, Added the man, of Algerian origin, to ‘EFE’.
Finally, they fled quietly: Abbas rode his bicycle with a companion. The others went on foot.
“Not even ten minutes passed between arrival and departure,” he explains in an interview with ‘EFE’.

the capture
The key piece to catching Abbas was his DNA. “I was wearing two pairs of gloves, but I touched the receptionist, to control it,” he told ‘Paris Match’.
His footprints were left on the rope with which he tied the man, so they were able to find him on the morning of January 9, 2017, three months after the assault.
Police found money and jewelry, but the thief believes there are still 7 million euros left untracked.
He was charged with organized robbery and kidnapping and his trial will take place in at least a year, so he will remain free as long as this happens, although he has a clear chance of returning to prison ( he has already spent nearly 21 years imprisoned due to other robberies in the past).
From the robbery, Abbas received 70,000 euros (almost $ 84,270 and more than 300 million pesos) and stated that if he ever matches Kim Kardashian, he would apologize. “If he doesn’t want to or can’t, he’s in his right. I’m sorry, but I can’t do more, I can’t go back,” he concluded, in his talk with ‘EFE’.
