Homemade cars they have a real place in the automotive world. Take an ambitious enthusiast with a dream, a fat enough wallet and a little skill, and the end result can be lovely. Some buildings are charming, confusing and amazing at the same time, like this “Mercedes-Benz AMG C8 GTR 2011” buried deep in the Chicago Craigslist pages. Don’t look at it for too long, or maybe you could get hurt.
Lately, I’ve been looking for a weird convertible to replace the Cooked and broken Chevrolet HHR in my shared fleet. My search has led me to the Chicago Craigslist, where instead of having fun in the fall I found what it may be the king of weird cars built at home for $ 75,000.
The seller says that this car is inspired by the Sauber C8, C9 and C11 Prototypes of group C. Mercedes-Benz. You can see the overall shape of a Group C prototype in there, but all the proportions are far apart. It’s like listening to a song where the singer manages to hit all the notes.
The seller he also says that this construction is legal by road, and mentions aspirations to go down the road or Circuit of the Sarthe. This makes me wonder what the top speed is and what it feels like to do it.

The ad takes a partially strange turn and starts reading as if it were written by a poetic bot:
Start with these, it has all the features of modern cars, horn, heat, cleaner, functional lights. He drives easily, the whole wait is in the back of the car. This car is about 6 to 8 inches wide than the average car, which makes it very easy to handle around the sternum.
I like it to be warm. Chicago is frozen effectively for much of the year, so the addition of a heater allows the car to be in the snow, in case you are brave enough to try it.
Take enough time outside and find some interesting design decisions.
The massive hood cover provides airflow to the radiator, and if you look closely enough, you’ll see what appear to be BMW M colored stripes on the grille.
The lower grille looks like it comes from a first-class Mercedes-Benz first-class SUV.
A mandatory AMG badge is struck on the back, as well as a large Mercedes star emblem on the engine housing.
Interestingly, a pair of distinctive Nissan Skyline GT-Rs flank the sides.
This car is said to be inspired by Mercedes race cars, but aside from the badge, it’s actually a soup of GM and Volkswagen parts.
Power is provided by a small 350-cubic-inch V8 Chevy block that goes into a 6-speed four-speed manual transmission from the Volkswagen 906. This reduces the power of the 15-inch aluminum wheels with a staggered tire configuration and everything is maintained with an independent suspension.
Open the gull doors and open the alligator leather bucket seats, carbon fiber board, and Auto Meter indicators.
The cabin is apparently quite spacious, and the seller says that tall and tall people can fit in with free space.
And they can enjoy entertainment in the form of spare radio. There is also a plaque thanking several people and shops for their help, as well as Sauber, Le Mans and the motorway.
The safety is interposed in the seat belts, a three-point roll bar and the nerf bars. What appears to be box steel constitutes it March. This equipment is not tested in case of failures, so I will do my best not to crash it.
This car is probably one of the weirdest things you’ll see on Craigslist, and while it’s incredibly confusing, it’s hard to hate. I bet it’s a lot of fun to drive and the owner of this thing will probably become a local celebrity. I know I would love to drive it during a snowstorm just to laugh.
If you want to own a caricature of a group C prototype, will refund you $ 75,000, unless you have a trade that the seller finds interesting enough. That’s a lot of money for a single homemade car. This kind of money provides you with a good used Audi R8, or a lot of V6 Used Mustangs. Still, I’m glad this amazing thing exists.
